Learn to Lag & Eliminate 3 Putts – Golf Fix It.com
If you 3 putt often, chances are you put too much emphasis on direction when you should be focusing on distance. You should practice putting the correct distance and master the putting pace to where the ball stops in the safety zone. Your safety zone is from the back of the cup to a position behind the cup that you feel safe that you will make the putt ( 18″ to 3 feet, I use 3 foot). This should ensure you a short putt or tap in and fewer 3 putts.
To practice having your putts come to rest in the safety zone, place a club or flag stick 3 feet past the cup. Start with 6 foot putts and move back 2 feet when you have 3 putts ( you can set the amount of putts to what ever you like) come to rest in the safety zone. If the ball does not pass the cup or the ball passes your safety zone, start over again. With practice you will confidence in your putting. You will start making more putts from outside of 6 foot and you will have fewer 3 putts.
Below is a golf tip video of Hank Haney demonstrating how to practice lag putting.
With practice I know this will help your putting and lower your score.
